The American Britney Alba did not expect to have two consecutive twin pregnancies, let alone that both would be considered rare and high risk.
Luka and Levi, Britney’s first twin children, were monochorionic-diamniotic twins. That is, identical fetuses that share the same placenta but each have an amniotic sac. Pregnancy is considered high risk as one fetus may receive more nutrients than the other. Despite the risks, the babies were born without complications in September 2021.

However, six months later, Britney found out she was pregnant once more, this time with two girls. The twins Lydia and Lynlee also caused a risky pregnancy: they shared the same placenta and the same amniotic sac, making them monochorionic-monoamniotic twins.
“The umbilical cords can also become entangled, which can cause the fetus to strangle. Unfortunately, the chances of babies being born dead in this case are high”, explains Professor Rachel Sinkey, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, in the United States. She is part of the team that assisted Britney.
The American sought out the same medical team that previously attended her at 25 weeks of gestation and was hospitalized for 60 days. Health professionals decided that it would be safer to opt for a cesarean section, which was done at week 32 of the pregnancy. In October 2022, the girls were also born healthy, but had to stay in the hospital for more than a month.
Despite the risk, Britney tells Today.com that the fact that it is her second pregnancy calmed her down. “It was definitely shocking, but we’ve done this before. We never had a single baby,” she says.
