Islamabad: Former Prime Minister Rehman Khan’s wife and social activist Rehman Khan has hit out at Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan ahead of a vote of no – confidence. Rehman Khan said the people of Pakistan must stand together to rectify the mess that Imran caused. Imran came to power in 2018 with the promise of creating a ‘new Pakistan’ (new Pakistan). But she said it had failed miserably, including in controlling the prices of essential commodities.
‘Imran is history! I think we need to stand together to clean up the mess left by the new Pakistan, ”Rehman Khan tweeted. Rehman Khan scoffed that Imran Khan lacked intelligence and ability. Addressing the nation, Imran had said that by the grace of God, he had achieved everything in life, including wealth and fame, and that nothing else was needed. This was a reference to Reham’s joke.
Rehman agreed with Imran that he had seen Pakistan rise to prominence during his childhood. “Yes, Pakistan was great when you were not the Prime Minister,” she said. Addressing the nation on Thursday, Imran had announced that he would not resign and would return strongly.
Imran, without naming the United States, alleged that a foreign country had intervened to expel him. Imran said the West had turned once morest him following he visited Russia and held talks with President Vladimir Putin.
The National Assembly was adjourned until Sunday following the opposition rioted demanding an immediate vote on the no-confidence motion once morest the Imran government. The no-confidence motion was the fourth on the 24-item agenda when the Pakistan National Assembly convened on Thursday. Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri adjourned the House until 11 a.m. Sunday following the opposition demanded an immediate vote.
The Imran government is effectively a minority, with two factions withdrawing support. With the two main parties in the ruling coalition coming together, the opposition secured the required 172 votes. Imran’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has the support of 177 people, including regarding 2 dozen insurgents.
Meanwhile, there are indications that a backdoor attempt is being made to reach an agreement with the opposition and the government. The formula discussed is to withdraw the no-confidence motion with the opposition, instead of dissolving the National Assembly and preparing for Imran to declare elections. It is reported that another senior government official will confirm this as the opposition is not ready to trust Imran.
Government sources told PTI that general elections would be held in August if the talks were successful. No Prime Minister in Pakistan has ever been ousted in disbelief; Not a single Prime Minister has completed 5 years.
