Improving Youth Mental Health Services: The K-Ban System in Walloon Brabant

The Federal Minister of Health, Frank Vandenbroucke, went to Genappe on Monday to meet the actors of the K-Ban system, an intersectoral project at the crossroads of issues of mental health, youth assistance and disability.

The K-Ban system was set up in January 2023 and brings together eight actors from the Archipel network, an intersectoral mental health network for children and adolescents in Walloon Brabant. These actors can thus offer a range of care and services for young people at the age of transition, that is to say between 16 and 23 years old. K-Ban benefits from funding of 941,000 euros from the FPS Public Health.

This sum makes it possible to mobilize ten full-time equivalents distributed among the eight partner associations and institutions in Walloon Brabant, with the aim of improving the care and support of young people aged 16 to 23, and meeting the specific needs of this age, between adolescence and adulthood, which were not yet fulfilled in the Young Province.

The actors participating in the K-Ban system are the two mobile teams (Children/teenagers and Adults) of the Archipel network, the non-profit organization Le Traversier which has an autonomy support service, the day center and night In Terre 1 Known from Genappe, the Le Domaine de Braine-l’Alleud hospital which permanently reserves 4 beds for young people of transition age, and three AMO (Jeun’Est, La Chaloupe and Tempo) which cover the territory of Walloon Brabant.

In addition to strengthening existing services, the K-Ban system makes it possible to bring together twice a month the eight actors who can then discuss the concrete situations of the young people supported and consider possible solutions together, to improve coordination between the support services. support, and to support the construction of expertise that benefits the entire network.
