Abu Dhabi: In compliance with the implementation of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s occupational safety and health system, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority supervises the performance of food and agricultural establishments, both plant and animal, and monitors their commitment to applying the general framework of the system, which aims to provide a healthy and safe work environment for workers in various sectors in the emirate, in addition to establishing a culture of safety. Occupational health and ensuring the welfare of workers.

In this context, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority succeeded in identifying, naming and registering 10,753 establishments in the agricultural and food sectors out of approximately 20,253 establishments, in order to follow up on their commitment to the general framework of the Abu Dhabi Occupational Safety and Health System. Medium risk, numbering 2,371, followed by low risk, numbering 8,329.

Food and agricultural facilities, both plant and animal, have been identified, named, and registered according to the number of employees and customers, the location and area of ​​the facility, and the nature of operations, materials, and chemical waste that are stored or used in the facility, in order to determine compliance requirements with occupational safety and health standards according to the degree of severity.

The specialized teams in the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority are participating in mock evacuation exercises for emergencies in some of the facilities that are being monitored. Participation in a mock evacuation exercise took place in Carrefour stores in the Marina Shopping Center to verify the effectiveness of emergency management plans and equipment, and to ensure the safe evacuation of employees and community members. In the event of an emergency and assessing the facility’s readiness to face any unexpected events.

The specialized teams in the authority also work to review and approve the safety management systems set by food and agricultural establishments, implement inspections for low and medium-risk establishments, periodic audits for high-risk establishments, and monitor internal investigations into occupational safety and health incidents, in addition to submitting facility performance reports to the Abu Dhabi Center. public health, and organizing programs to raise awareness of the importance of applying the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s system of occupational safety and health and its benefits to the facilities and their workers.

In a related context, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority is keen to apply the best local and international practices related to occupational safety and health in all its facilities, and to provide a safe work environment for employees and stakeholders to ensure the continuity of business and services provided to the community, and the authority implements mock evacuation exercises for all its facilities to ensure its readiness to respond to emergencies. And ensuring the safety of employees and customers in the event of any emergency.

The general framework of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s occupational safety and health system aims to improve occupational safety and health standards, reduce injuries, diseases and accidents in the workplace, reduce risks and claims incurred by institutions, provide strong occupational health systems and improve institutional efficiency and the level of well-being of workers in various sectors.
