2023-07-07 10:19:16

Patients with severe psychiatric disorders are at higher risk of cancer and are less well cared for. In order to improve access to care and support, the CH Charles Perrens and theInstitut Bergonie, regional center for the fight once morest cancer (CLCC) of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, sign upartnership agreement.

In order to offer comprehensive care combining oncological care and psychiatric care, the Bergonié Institute and the Charles Perrens Hospital Center have decided to strengthen their medical and nursing collaborations as well as their bilateral strategic partnership. Through this merger, the two establishments also wish to consolidate their respective missions within the framework of an approach that is intended to be resolutely multidisciplinary, with a common objective pursued, that of improving patient care. The geographical proximity of the two institutions also offers real opportunities for carrying out collaborative actions.

The objective pursued is to improve patient care, whether their illness is identified beforehand or an episode encountered during hospitalization.

The needs identified by the parties are as follows:

For the Bergonié Institute
– Better understand drug treatments within the discipline of psychiatry to better understand possible interactions
– Better manage situations of drug addiction
– Better support a situation of occasional decompensation of a patient and know who to contact
– Better support patients in their overall management of their disease.

For CH Charles Perrens:
– Better understand drug treatments related to oncology in order to better understand possible interactions
– Better support a situation of discovery of cancer and know who to contact
– Better support patients in their overall management of their disease

To meet these needs, the major axes of this collaboration will be as follows:
– Communicate on the existing care systems within each establishment,
– Define and implement a collaboration in order to improve the management of patients with mixed disorders, relating to both oncology and psychiatry disciplines,
– Collaborate on joint calls for projects, research and publication,
– Implementing joint prevention actions, in particular promoting access to cancer screening,
– Formalize a working group on the “pharmacy” theme.
