Improving Road Safety: The Ban on Ineffective Sunglasses and the Certification of Optimal Visibility

To improve road safety, the Spanish authorities are considering toughening driving conditions with certain sunglasses deemed ineffective and therefore dangerous.

Not all sunglasses are created equal when it comes to protecting once morest radiation! Building on this observation and facing the increase in accidents, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) intends ban certain sunglasses au flying throughout Spain.

But the lenses would not be the only ones targeted since glasses with large frames, very fashionable, or those with wide temples might reduce the field of vision.

What is in force in France

In France, certain types of glasses are already not recommended or even prohibited. Thus, category 4 lenses must be kept “for the beach or the boat”, they are not suitable for driving. It is necessary to favor the shade of category 3for the color, brown being the ideal, not altering the colors and contrasts.

In the event of strong light, low sun or reflection following a downpour, the polarized lenses reduce glare phenomena. These are guarantees of security.

As a reminder, if the port of corrective glasses is mentioned on your driving license, it is indispensable that the sunglasses are also adapted to your vision.

In the event of an infraction, the fine is 135 euros and 3 points less on the license with possible immobilization of the vehicle.

Furthermore, no text requires contact lens wearers to have a pair of corrective glasses on board.
