[People-to-people bonds]Leung Chun-ying leads a delegation to visit Timor-Leste to improve public health and demonstrates the use of fly paper by hanging mosquito lanterns
Leung Chun-ying, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Hong Kong Sharing Foundation, recently led a delegation to visit the Southeast Asian country of Timor-Leste to try to improve Timor-Leste’s public health.
Leung Chun-ying posted on social media on Sunday (21st) that this was his second visit to East Timor as chairman of the Sharing Foundation in seven weeks. He also described the trip as a large team, with a total of 18 foundation staff and volunteers, in order to implement the consensus reached with the Timorese government during the previous visit, “to work hard to improve public health in Timor-Leste through people-to-people communication.”
He also predicted that he would co-host the project launch ceremony with Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana on Tuesday (23rd) and announce the project details. From the photos uploaded by Leung Chun-ying, it can be seen that he personally hung up high-efficiency mosquito lamps on local buildings and demonstrated how to use fly paper.
Timor-Leste is located in the tropics, with a hot and humid climate. Mosquitoes are prone to breed during the rainy season, which is the season of high incidence of malaria and dengue fever.
Liang Chunying visited East Timor in December last year. When he met with Prime Minister Xanana, he said that through this inspection, the Hong Kong Sharing Foundation gained a deeper understanding of the East’s needs in preventing and treating infectious diseases. The foundation is willing to take action as soon as possible to help Timor-Leste improve the level of infectious disease prevention and control, promote people-to-people ties between the two countries, and allow more people in Timor-Leste to share the fruits of the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”.
