09/03/2023, Xalapa, Ver.- Carlos Santiago Gutiérrez Guerrero, a student at the Faculty of Clinical Chemistry at the Universidad Veracruzana (UV), believes that exercising regularly is important to achieve a healthy lifestyle, improve health mental health and foster integration among fellow students.

The young university student commented that unfortunately he contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus, causing the COVID-19 disease that damaged his lung; With the passing of the pandemic, he decided to enroll in one of the programs offered by the UV Sports Activities Directorate (DADUV), handball.

He assured that exercise has allowed him to improve his state of health: “I have felt very good, physically and mentally, especially since I came out of confinement to live with other people; making new friends and exercising makes me feel great.”

Exercising helps physical and mental health

For his part, Martín Gallegos Rivera, a student at the Faculty of Law and who practices volleyball, said that participating in a sport is a healthy activity that avoids a sedentary lifestyle.

“It helps us to stay active from the start of the warm-up, the explanation they give us regarding the positioning of the hands to avoid injuries, all of this helps us get out of the monotony and improve our health condition.”

Sport helps manage stress
Carlos Alfredo Torres Núñez, technical coordinator of the DADUV, pointed out that among the impacts that sports activity has on physical and mental health, are its improvement, as well as stress management.

To contribute to these aspects, various sports programs are offered to the university community and the general public; They work both in the Free Choice Training Area (AFEL) and in external programs.

The practice of volleyball fosters integration and communication

Among the disciplines they offer are: triathlon, chess, taekwondo, table tennis, handball, swimming, volleyball and basketball; for UV workers, yoga classes and night soccer tournaments, as well as other activities in which children of workers and retirees can participate.

He announced that the UV Soccer Academy will be launched in September, to which children and young people from four to 17 years of age will be able to attend; Registration is open and the activities will take place at the Campus for Arts and Sports.

Torres Núñez stressed that all DADUV programs are run by personnel trained in some specialty in sports or sports training.
