The number of beneficiaries of improved income since the launch of the social dialogue has reached 4 million 250 thousand, including 1 million 250 thousand employees in the public sector and 3 million private sector employees.
A statement from the Presidency of the Government explained that, in parallel with the measures to raise income, the April 2024 round, which was signed today, Monday, in Rabat, between the government, the trade union centers, and professional organizations and associations of workers, enabled consensus on the basic principles for carrying out the reform of the pension systems, which will be further discussed at the end of its presentation to the Prime Minister. Parliament during the fall session of 2024, while the draft law regulating the strike will be presented to Parliament during the current spring session. The government, in consultation with its social and economic partners, will also study some laws related to labor legislation.
The same source added that this agreement constitutes the result of the efforts made by all parties, through the proposals and approaches that were presented to reach acceptable solutions to the demands presented to improve the conditions of employees and maintain the competitiveness of national enterprise and its social obligations, as well as a continuation of the implementation of the obligations included in the April 30 agreement. 2022, which laid the foundations for social dialogue.
It was recorded that the procedures of this agreement, which was signed by the Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, and on behalf of the trade union centers by the Secretary General of the Moroccan Labor Confederation, Melody Al-Makhareq, the General Secretary of the General Union of Workers in Morocco, Al-Naam Mayara, and the General Secretary of the Democratic Confederation of Labor, Abdelkader Zayer, and on behalf of the professional organizations and associations of workers. Both the President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, Chakib Laalj, and the President of the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development, Rachid Benali, are concerned regarding the general increase in the wages of workers in the public sector who have not yet benefited from the increase, in the amount of 1,000 dirhams net per month.
These measures also include reducing the income tax for all employees and workers, with a monthly effect of up to 400 dirhams for middle-income groups, and raising the minimum wage by a new 10 percent in this round, in addition to a previous increase by a similar percentage, thus raising the minimum wage. By 20 percent, and raising the minimum agricultural wage by a new 10 percent, in addition to a previous increase of 15 percent, and thus the minimum agricultural wage has risen by 25 percent since the coming of this government.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister stressed that the signing of the April 2024 round agreement is “a historic event and a new gain for improving the conditions of the working class, which His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, has always urged to pay attention to in order to achieve development and ensure social equity and national solidarity.” .
It was also recorded, the communication adds, that the government has been keen, since its inauguration, on joint and responsible work with its social and economic partners, within the framework of institutionalizing social dialogue, in implementation of the lofty royal vision that raised it to the status of a strategic option, indicating that the government has expressed a strong political will to improve the financial situation.
