Improving Cancer Care in Ivory Coast: Turkish Medical Assistance Company offers Expertise in Radiotherapy Techniques

Abidjan, November 19, 2023 (AIP) – The Turkish medical assistance company, called “Ramed assistance”, presented its expertise to help improve cancer care in Ivory Coast.

Friday November 17, 2023, during a scientific conference held at the Pullman hotel in Plateau, Dr Tayfun Hancilar, Turkish radiotherapist, presented on new radiotherapy techniques for more effective treatment once morest cancer.

He listed the technique of LINAC MRI to aid diagnosis and the methods of CYBER and GAMMA Knife to aid treatment of the disease.

According to Dr Hancilar, Ivorian doctors have good skills in radiotherapy, but they lack modern equipment and training in new techniques.

“I noted the high level of competence of doctors in Ivory Coast. It would be beneficial to welcome them to Turkey to train them on these new radiotherapy techniques so that they can have more modern equipment,” he observed.

Professor Touré Moctar, doctor in the cancerology department at Treichville University Hospital, took stock of cancer care in Ivory Coast, noting the limits of the diagnostic, therapeutic and epidemiological levels.

He welcomed the quality of the exchanges which will make it possible to optimize cancer care by facilitating the local treatment of patients.

“We plan to collaborate with Ramed to provide our trained doctors with the appropriate technology to ensure the quality of cancer care,” he said.

Cancer constitutes a real public health problem worldwide with more than 15 million new cases recorded in 2020. And in Côte d’Ivoire, according to the latest statistics, around 17,000 new cases were detected in 2020 with nearly 11,000 deaths. .

This represents a very high mortality rate. Delayed diagnosis at hospital level and the difficulty of implementing appropriate treatments are the main reasons.
