Improvements in sight for Austria Klagenfurt as Andy Irving returns from injury

Austria Klagenfurt’s problems in the previous games were obvious – and can be seen on the statistics sheet: The Violets remained without a goal. But improvement is in sight, because Andy Irving, a player who should ensure creativity, could return to the starting line-up in the guest appearance on Sunday (2.30 p.m., Sky live) in the 15th round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga at SCR Altach.

“We are happy that Andy is available to us again after his injury break. He is very confident on the ball, always finds a good solution, can play the last pass and also looks for the finish himself. I am sure that he will be good for the team,” says Managing Director Sport Günther Gorenzel.

During the final training session before the match against SK Rapid (3:2), the 23-year-old midfield director sustained a ligament injury in his knee. He therefore also missed the duels with WSG Tirol (1:0) and at WAC (0:4) as well as the round of 16 in the ÖFB Cup at Austria Vienna (0:1). Most recently against SK Sturm (0:3), Irving celebrated a 30-minute comeback – and was immediately an offensive factor again.

“We were much better in the second half, put pressure on us and also had one or two opportunities to score the goal. In this phase, Sturm decided the game with the third goal. But I think that we can still take positive things with us and if we build on that, then we will take something with us in Altach,” says Irving, looking ahead to the match in Vorarlberg.

The personnel situation in Waidmannsdorf remains tense for the rest of the autumn season. An offensive man, Nicolas Binder, returned to team training on Tuesday, but goalkeeper Marco Knaller, defender Kosmas Gkezos, midfielder Christopher Cvetko and attackers Sebastian Soto and Jonas Arweiler will not be available again until 2024. Head coach Peter Pacult used the international break primarily for regeneration.

“The trainer gave us the space we needed to fully recharge the battery. We made very good use of that. Now it’s time to get back to work and do everything we can to be well prepared for the game in Altach. It is very important that we get back on the road to success after the two defeats,” emphasizes Irving.

Despite the successful start to the current series, the Violets have not backed away from their original goal. As in the previous two seasons, the top priority is to stay in the league. And the ticket for the 2024/25 season in the upper house should be purchased as quickly as possible, ideally with qualification for the upper playoff.

“Everyone knows what the games are about until the winter break. First Altach, then Hartberg and finally Austria Vienna. These are all duels with teams that are close to us in the table – so we have to write. Nine points are up for grabs and we will compete to get the maximum result,” says Irving combatively.
