With the WWDC announcements now well behind us, analysts have plenty to think about other Apple products and their integration with the Vision Pro and visionOS, even if the headset won’t be released until early 2024.

an improved UWB

If Mark Gurman seems to have offered himself a short vacation, Ming Chi Kuo took the opportunity to post on Twitter! The novelties being a priori finished for this summer, it is indeed appropriate to look at the next big event from Apple: the iPhone 15!

According to the analyst, Apple should hit hard with improvements to the hardware specs of the iPhone, as part of an overall plan to strengthen its ties with the Vision Pro. The ecosystem is one of the main factors for the success of Vision Pro, including integration with other Apple hardware products, and the main related hardware specifications are Wi-Fi and UWB.

The first step would be to upgrade to Ultra Wideband. Thus, the iPhone 15 should carry a new, more efficient version of the U1 chip. The iPhone 15 will likely see a spec upgrade from UWB, using a more advanced 16nm to 7nm production process, which will either improve performance or reduce power consumption for interactions at proximity.

As a reminder, Cupertino has been using the U1 chip since the iPhone 11 and has integrated it into several products, such as AirTags, Apple Watch (since Series 6), HomePod mini, HomePod Gen 2 and charging case. AirPods Pro Gen 2.

This chip is involved in several functions, starting with Locate, but also Handoff or AirDrop. Ming-Chi Kuo believes that this new generation of U1 chip will significantly improve these features and also play a key role in the integration between the Vision Pro and other Apple products.

Wi-Fi 7 for the iPhone 16

In the process, the analyst projects himself in 2024! He believes that the iPhone 16 should be the first iPhone to support Wi-Fi 7, always in this option to improve its ecosystem and integration between products.

Remember that Wi-Fi 7 naturally promises a sharp increase in transfer speeds and throughput. It should offer certain advantages in terms of virtual and augmented reality functions.
