This message is broadcast on the occasion of the Security Fortnight which takes place from September 15 to October 2. The SPF Interior, Bebat, Netwerk Brandweer, Rezonwal and the Brussels fire brigade are joining forces to launch the “Don’t play with fire” prevention campaign, the aim of which is to give cyclists advice on how to safely recharge their batteries. batteries for scooters and electric bicycles, in particular.
“Only recharge in an area equipped with a smoke detector and stay nearby,” recommends the SPF and its partners. “Once the battery is fully charged, remove the plug from the outlet,” they advise.
Citizens are also asked to keep damaged, defective or unused batteries in a safe place and then return them, as soon as possible, to a bicycle dealer or the container park.
“Keep the battery in a dry place away from cold and heat, limit flammable materials near it, and do not place anything on it to avoid overheating” are other advice given by the SPF , the organization of collections of Bebat batteries, and firefighters.
Finally, it is advisable to “never repair the battery yourself but to entrust it to an expert” and “to have it checked by a bicycle or scooter dealer to ensure that it is not damaged, especially following a heavy fall”.
