After the last World Cup Super G of the winter, two Swiss are on the podium. Marco Odermatt and Gino Caviezel finished second and third behind Vincent Kriechmayr in the finale in Courchevel.

Odermatt lost a good half a second to the superior Austrian Kriechmayr, who had already won the downhill the day before before Nidwaldner. For Odermatt it was, including the Olympic victory in the giant slalom, the 16th podium finish in this dreamlike winter for him.

Caviezel made it into the top three for the first time in Super-G. The Bündner’s previous best results in this discipline were places 9 and 10 at the beginning of the season in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Caviezel had previously secured the only podium finish in the World Cup in the penultimate October when he finished third in the giant slalom in Sölden.

The other Swiss participants, Justin Murisier, Stefan Rogentin and Beat Feuz, all took places 8 to 10. The Norwegian Aleksander Kilde, who had previously been the winner of the Super-G classification, came fourth.

Kriechmayr’s compensation for the Olympics

With the double victory in the speed races this week, Kriechmayr achieved what he had already achieved three years ago at the final in Are. He had already won the downhill in Sweden, together with his teammate Matthias Mayer, and the Super-G.

The renewed double victory is also some compensation for the double world champion for the races at the Olympic Games in Beijing that did not go according to plan. Kriechmayr was eighth in the downhill and sixth in the Super-G.
