Bancontact broke down on Tuesday. Many Belgians found themselves unable to pay by card. The fault now appears to be restored.

What’s going on with Bancontact? A Viervétois contacted us via our Alert us button. While shopping at Colruyt de Tiège, in Jalhay, he realized that the Bancontact was not working. “They took people’s Xtra cards to get their contact details and send them transfers later,” he explains.

The breakdown seemed generalized shortly following 4 p.m.
