During the night from Friday to Saturday, an imposing piece of tree fell and damaged four cars which were parked in the parking lot of a residence, rue Sous-le-Château in Huy. It was 5:51 a.m. when firefighters from the Hemeco zone were called to intervene. Since the tree, a beech, did not threaten any homes or people and was on private property, fire crews referred the caller to a private company. “I was called to the scene around 8:30 a.m., but the events occurred around 4 a.m.explains Sam Magott, a young entrepreneur (22 years old) in parks and gardens located in Modave. Initially, I was pointed out a branch, but when I arrived there, I discovered its imposing size.” Indeed, for the Modavian it was more about cutting a tree than simply cutting branches.
Ripped doors, broken windows, parts of grilles torn off
The contractor was not equipped to deal with branches of such diameter with the tools he had taken on site. “I had to call for backup. I called on colleagues. It took me less time to have someone come with the right tools than to go back home to find what I needed.” Sam Magott had provided equipment to cut branches of around 20 centimeters, the largest branch had a circumference of around one meter in diameter! “There were three of us working. We stayed there for about five hours. It was impressive.”
At the end of the cleanup, all that remained was the impressive damage caused to the cars. Thus, during the partial fall of the tree, doors were ripped open, parts of bodywork and grilles torn off and windows broken. Since the tree was on a property other than the parking lot of the residence, the invoice will be sent to the owner of the residence who hired the contractor. The latter will then find an arrangement with the insurance of the owner of the land where the tree is located in order to be reimbursed. Fortunately, no one was there when the fall occurred. The damage, although impressive, is only material.
