The Ministry of Health’s surveillance system is operating at full capacity. With summer approaching, mosquitoes and viral diseases are still a threat. For the period from September 17 to September 22, 5,000 cases of acute respiratory infections were recorded.
“With the changes in temperature, cases of respiratory infections such as the flu cannot be ruled out. This is why it is important to get flu shots. We must not forget that Covid-19 is still circulating, so it is important to remain vigilant”explains Doctor Fazil Khodabocus.
Who says summer, also says rain, and mosquitoes are more likely to develop in this kind of environment. If no local case of dengue fever or malaria has been detected in Mauritius, imported cases have indeed been recorded by the Ministry of Health. “We have a continuous monitoring system. Our 13 offices are always on alert and all cases are treated with a protocol established by our public health system,” he stressed.
