Tips for users
Regardless of whether it is medication or dietary supplements with omega-3 fatty acids: people who have heart disease or corresponding risk factors (such as high blood pressure, diabetes or being very overweight) should only take such preparations following consulting a doctor – especially over a longer period of time. This is what the BfR recommends.
According to the BfArM, anyone who develops possible symptoms of atrial fibrillation (e.g. shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness) while taking omega-3 supplements should definitely talk to their doctor regarding it.
By the way: If you regularly eat fish once or twice a week, you don’t have to worry regarding an increased risk of atrial fibrillation due to omega-3. According to the BfR, the intake quantity is not sufficient.
