Important meetings, bilateral interest and security issues discussed in US visit of Army Chief

Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) has arrived on a visit to America where he was warmly welcomed. During this visit, Pakistan army chief met with top US government officials and military officials.

During this important visit, the Chief of Army Staff met US Secretary of State Anthony J. Blankenship, Defense Minister General Lloyd J. Austin, Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer.

US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff were also present in these meetings.

In these meetings of Army Chief Syed Asim Munir with top US officials, bilateral interests, mutual issues of global and regional security as well as ongoing international conflicts were discussed.

In the meeting, the areas of defense cooperation including anti-terrorism were given prime importance and it was agreed to continue possible bilateral cooperation efforts to achieve common interests.

The commitment to continue discussions on matters of mutual interest was also reiterated in this important meeting.

During the meeting, the Army Chief also stressed the importance of understanding each other’s perspectives on regional security challenges and aspects affecting regional security in South Asia.

In this context, the Army Chief particularly highlighted the importance of resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

Apart from this, Army Chief Syed Asim Munir also interacted with members of the Pakistani community abroad in a reception organized by the Pakistani Embassy during his visit to the US.

The Army Chief appreciated the positive role and efforts of the overseas Pakistani community for the country’s development and invited the overseas Pakistanis to invest in Pakistan while mentioning the achievements of SIFC.

The Chief of Army Staff also highlighted that America is currently the largest export market for Pakistan which is 21.5% of our total exports.

The army chief refuted rumors of blocking of visas, special screening, and other such misleading rumors for overseas Pakistanis, saying that overseas Pakistanis are highly respected in Pakistan. Pakistanis abroad are ambassadors and assets of Pakistan.

Finally, the Pakistani community abroad said that the Pakistan Army is our pride and appreciated the services of the Army for Pakistan.

Army Chief Syed Asim Munir expressed his best wishes for the Pakistani community abroad.
