The Consulate General of Spain in Havana announced important information about changes in its operations as a result of the energy crisis facing Cuba.

According to a series of statements issued by its official account on the social network XFrom Monday, October 21, the offices located in the Lonja del Comercio will remain closed until further notice.

This This measure directly affects previously scheduled appointments for procedures related to obtaining Spanish nationality and renewing passports.which have been temporarily canceled.

The closure of the headquarters in the Lonja del Comercio will not affect the operation of the offices located in the Palacio de Velasco, where Appointments scheduled for other consular procedures such as visas, marriages, notarial services and legalizations will be maintained.. The consulate has assured that it will contact people affected by the cancellation of their appointments to assign them new appointments once the situation stabilizes.

This decision is a consequence of the energy emergency situation declared by the Cuban authorities, which has generated a considerable impact on different sectors, including the operation of foreign institutions such as the Spanish consulate.

Energy crisis affects consular services in Cuba

In previous days, the diplomatic representation had already warned about possible adjustments and recommended that the population remain attentive to its official communications.

Despite this inconvenience, the Consulate General of Spain in Havana had reported an increase in attention capacity for files related to the Democratic Memory Law.

As of October 21, it was planned to serve 326 more people per week, which represents an increase of 37.33% in the processing of this type of requests.
