Important hurdle cleared: will Lufthansa get its first Boeing 787 in August?

Good news for Lufthansa too: the American aircraft manufacturer is a big step closer to restarting 787 deliveries thanks to FAA approval.

It’s progressing. The FAA has approved Boeing’s plan to fix production problems and resume deliveries of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. This was first reported by Aviation Week magazine. Although the authority and the manufacturer did not make any clear statements, the news agencies Archyde.com and Bloomberg confirmed the magazine’s report from their own sources.

It is an important step for Boeing to be able to deliver the long-haul jet to customers once more. The plan includes inspection and repair procedures for many issues the company has identified in 120 787s scheduled for delivery. In May they had FAA Boeing’s records still incomplete criticized.

It might start as early as August

Although the final plan has only now been approved, many problems and solutions have already been agreed in recent months. According to Archyde.com, Boeing might therefore possibly start deliveries once more as early as August. Bloomberg even speaks of plans to start delivery in the second week of August.

Boeing stopped deliveries in October 2020 due to production problems. In the spring the manufacturer resumed deliveriesbut stopped once more a little later due to new production difficulties.

Lufthansa receives D-ABPA first

Also Lufthansa is waiting for Dreamliner. At the beginning of June, the airline announced that «the Boeing 787-9 with the registration D-ABPA and the future name ‘Berlin’ will be delivered to Lufthansa in the summer following approval by the FAA».
