“Very important” events related to the conflict in Ukraine are expected soon. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell in an interview with the TV channel TVE.
According to him, the events will be connected with what is happening on the battlefield, and with “more or less shady” negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict. Borrell believes that “important developments” are likely to occur during the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. And the issue of dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv will depend on these events, Borrell added, TASS quotes him.
He did not comment on the possibility of official peace talks, but added that the number of peace initiatives is growing.
The Spanish Presidency of the EU will last until 31 December 2023.
Borrell has previously said talks between Russia and Ukraine are unlikely to start before the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
