2023-07-29 04:03:00

Here are the main measures that will come into effect on August 1st.

Like every month, several changes will occur in the daily life of the French. The Independent takes stock of the measures that will come into force on August 1.

End of receipt

Postponed several times, the end of automatic printing of the receipt comes into force on Tuesday, August 1st.
Technically, the receipt is not deleted but it will now only be printed on customer request and in certain specific cases.
Note that the merchant cannot refuse to print the ticket.

This change concerns all businesses, but also ATMs.

The exceptions, listed in this article from The Independent, essentially apply when purchases include a legal guarantee compliance or those related to a payment cancelled.

Back-to-school allowance

From August 1, an amount up by +1.5% will be paid to the parents of the 5 million children who benefit from the back-to-school allowance.

This year, the amount of this allowance will range from 398 to 434 euro.

It is in the departments of Réunion and Mayotte that the first allowances will be paid, this Tuesday, August 1. You will have to wait for the August 16 for other departments.

Faced with inflation, the back-to-school bonus was slightly increased this year. This social assistance is intended for low-income families whose income does not exceed a certain ceiling.

Electricity price

After the +15% increase last February, the price of electricity will increase once more on August 1st. The increase will be, this time, +10%. The government can, twice a year (in February and August), revise the regulated electricity tariffs, which benefit 23 million French people.
On average, this increase should be 160 euros per year for the French.

This Friday, Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, indicated that France should “gradually get out of the tariff shield which weighs heavily on the finances of the State and on the debt of the country”.

On August 1, the rate shield will now support 37% of the French bill once morest 43%.

End of sales

Initially, the sales were to end on July 25. But riots at the beginning of July had led the government to extend them by two weeks in order to support those heavily impacted by these events.

This is how the sales will end this Tuesday, August 1st.

Tax refund

As of July 24, eligible taxpayers began receiving income tax refunds. In total, they are 15 million to be affected and these reimbursements will continue this Wednesday, August 2.

With an average amount of 844 euros per household, this amount generally represents the excess deducted in 2022 via the withholding tax collected directly from your income (salary, pensions, etc.).

Livret A, LLDS, LEP

Despite record inflation, France and the Banque de France have decided not to respect the rules for revaluing the A booklet since it will remain, on August 1, at 3% as during its last revaluation in February 2023 once morest 4.1% if the rules had been respected.

The preferred investment of the French will even remain blocked at 3% until 2025.

Bad news for the most modest who are eligible for this booklet, but this 2023 rate remains attractive since it is higher than the level of inflation (4.5% over one year, in June 2023, according to INSEE).
