ALGIERS – Minister of Finance, Laaziz Faid chaired, Saturday, a meeting of the Commission responsible for monitoring the confiscation operation in the context of corruption cases during which he emphasized the importance of continuity of activities of confiscated companies and preservation of state property until the authorities concerned decide on their fate, indicates a press release from the ministry.

The meeting, which took place in the presence of the administrators responsible for the management of the companies condemned in this context and a number of executives from the ministry, aims to “ensure the continuity and efficiency of the activities of these companies and to preserve their interests , while reaffirming the imperative to achieve maximum transparency and accountability in the management of their resources,” said the same source.

In his opening speech, Mr. Faid emphasized the importance of this meeting which “constitutes a positive step towards improving the performance of the companies concerned and ensuring their sustainability”, noting that “this initiative comes as part of strengthening the government’s efforts in the fight once morest corruption and the consolidation of transparency.

He also underlined “the importance of the continuity of the activity of these companies and of preserving State property until the authorities concerned decide on their fate”, insisting on “the need to demonstrate responsibility and ethics in transactions within this framework.

Mr. Faid also stressed the need to “maintain permanent contact with administrators to overcome the difficulties they may encounter in the exercise of their functions, by intensifying the work of the commission responsible for monitoring the confiscation operation in the framework of anti-corruption affairs.

He also insisted on the need for this commission to “meet monthly in order to present the situation of these companies and propose appropriate solutions to accelerate the pace of settlement of these complex and sensitive files”.

During this meeting, several issues were addressed, including the assessment of the current situation of these companies, the identification of the challenges they face with the aim of defining the available resources and using them effectively, the development of a roadmap to improve their performance, strengthen transparency and apply standards of good governance in the management of these companies, indicates the same source.

The directors played an “important” role in the meeting, in the sense that their concerns related to the exercise of their functions and their suggestions regarding the management of these companies were listened to and discussed, the press release concludes.
