Implenia and Frutiger clinch Gotthard main prize

The contract for the construction of the 7.9 km long section represents a volume of 467 million francs excluding VAT.

The Federal Roads Office (Ofrou) has awarded the contract for the main North lot of the second tube of the Gotthard road tunnel to a consortium comprising Implenia (60%) and Frutiger (40%). The contract represents a volume of 467 million francs excluding VAT.

Construction work on the 7.9 km long section is expected to last from 2022 to 2029, said a statement released Tuesday evening.

According to Ofrou, the “secondo tubo” consortium led by Implenia presented “a very good offer in terms of quality and price, thus proving to be the most advantageous”, convincing on all the award criteria.

“We are very pleased to be able to plan and build this large, complex infrastructure project, which fits perfectly into Implenia’s strategy”, rejoiced André Wyss, Managing Director (CEO) of Implenia, quoted in the press release, stressing that the second tube of the Gotthard tunnel “contributes significantly to the improvement of the north-south road connection in Switzerland”.
