DEPUTY Chairperson of the Indonesian Textile Association (API) Anne Patricia Sutanto said that the implementation of restrictions on luggage from abroad based on Minister of Trade Regulation 36/2023 concerning Import Policies and Regulations which are actually intended for passengers falls into the non-business import category.

This means that the Minister of Trade Regulation will help control imports originating from providers of jastip hand carry and passenger baggage services.

“Of course it’s not API that helps, but rather the official Indonesian retailer, which holds the brand rights to the goods it sells,” said Anne, Sunday (17/3).

Because usually jastip providers bring finished products, although there are also those who bring raw material products.

“Many MSMEs, producers and retailers have been helped by Minister of Trade Regulation 36/2023. In principle, API is more towards API. We are more focused on the positive impact of import control in a targeted and fair manner as regulated in Minister of Trade Regulation 36/2023 and Technical Regulations in the Ministry of Industry, said Anne.

Contacted separately, API Chairman Jemmy Kartiwa Sastraatmaja said that the association felt that Permendag 36/2023 specifically regulates types of textile goods (HS) and textile products (TPT), including the regulation for ready-made clothing from Post Border to Border.

“So supervision at the airport has changed, especially for traders who buy goods for resale,” said Jemmy.

He further said that the impact of the implementation of Minister of Trade Regulation 36, which came into effect on March 10, is starting to have an impact on small and medium industrial tailors (IKM) who are starting to get their sewing orders. Whereas previously many sewing lines were empty.

“Hopefully this order will continue, so that it can improve industrial utilization which has reached 50%. We thank the Government for issuing this regulation. This regulation is part of the Non-Tariff Barrier which is also implemented in several countries. Hopefully the workers who are laid off “can be recalled immediately as a result of the implementation of Minister of Trade Regulation 36/2023,” said Jemmy. (Z-6)
