Imperial’s Major Street Improvement Project Enhances Safety and Accessibility

IMPERIAL — The city of Imperial has embarked on an ambitious street improvement project designed to significantly enhance safety, accessibility, and overall transportation efficiency for both residents and visitors alike, as announced by city officials.

The project officially commenced on October 24 and is slated for completion by November 15, bringing a much-anticipated upgrade to the community.

This extensive initiative will specifically focus on renovating crucial roadways within the Sunset Ranch, Victoria Ranch, and Wildflower Subdivisions. In addition to these residential areas, the project will target key thoroughfares including 15th Street west of Highway 86, which runs adjacent to Frank Wright Middle School; H Street, stretching from Barioni Boulevard to Seventh Street; Preble Road, from Treshill to Aten Road; Myrtle Road, which connects Wall Road to Aten Road; and La Brucherie Road, spanning from Aten Road to Industry Way.

With a budget of $3.4 million, this project encompasses multiple layers of renovation, incorporating grinding, a leveling course, asphalt rubber aggregate membrane (ARAM), slurry, and an asphalt rubber hot mix (ARHM) overlay, all aimed at enhancing road durability and performance.

The street improvement project is part of a broader city-wide initiative to cultivate a safer and more accessible urban landscape, catering to the diverse needs of community members—this includes pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers alike. The undertaking primarily responds to community feedback, signaling a commitment to address long-standing concerns regarding street maintenance.

“Our residents deserve roads they can rely on, and this project reflects our commitment to improving daily life for everyone. While this phase won’t cover every street in need, it’s a strong start, and we’re committed to continuing our efforts until every neighborhood sees the improvements it deserves per our five-year Capital Improvement Plan,” Mayor Robert Amparano remarked in a statement emphasizing the project’s significance.

“I want to thank our citizens for their patience and input and the dedicated teams making it happen. Together, we’re building a stronger, safer city for all. I’m thrilled to see how these enhancements will contribute to a more vibrant and inclusive city of Imperial,” Amparano reiterated, echoing the excitement surrounding the improvements.
