Imminent release of the Quest Pro, Meta’s new virtual collaboration headset

Meta (ex-Facebook group) unveiled the Quest Pro, announced for October 25. This virtual reality headset succeeds the Quest 2, launched on the market two years ago. “We believe that virtual reality devices will help usher in the next generation of computing becoming as useful as laptops and tablets are today, and that people will use them every day to access the metaverse,” explains Meta in its announcement.

The group led by Mark Zuckerberg positions the new device primarily as a virtual collaboration tool and is aimed particularly at creative people. “Mixed reality on Meta Quest Pro allows you to combine your physical environment with virtual elements in a realistic way, to improve social presence, productivity and collaboration. Instead of being confined to a space the size of your desk, you can set up a large virtual workspace with multiple screens spread all around you, while still using your physical keyboard and mouse,” the announcement reads. of the product.

The Quest Pro has thin so-called “pancake” optics that reduce the depth of the optical module by 40%, according to the manufacturer. In addition, the Quest pro offers 75% more contrast and a 1.3 times wider color spectrum than the previous model.

Haptic system and 360 degree movements

The VR headset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ processor. The Quest Pro has 256 gigabytes of memory and 12 gigabytes of RAM. The two self-guided controllers feature haptic feedback and are meant to function as a natural extension of the hands, according to Meta. Thanks to the three integrated cameras and the Snapdragon 662 processors integrated into the controllers, users have a 360-degree radius of movement.

Users can simultaneously open several resizable screens and thus organize their tasks. A system makes it possible to equip digital avatars with people’s expressions in real time. Meta further emphasizes the wearing comfort of these VR glasses, which should also be suitable for anyone who wears glasses.
