Support of 180 billion FCFA
Against reforms
Friday June 30, 2023, at the end of a mission led by the head of mission Martin Schindler, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced through a press release that it had validated an aid program for the benefit of Burkina Faso.
The total amount is 305 million dollars or regarding 180 billion FCFA. This support aims to “strengthen resilience to shocks and reduce poverty” in the country. “The economic program aims to restore macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability while laying the foundations for stronger and more inclusive growth,” said mission chief Martin Schindler in a statement.
What reforms are planned?
The reforms planned under the program are:
– improving the efficiency of public enterprises in the energy sector,
– better mobilization of tax resources as well as the implementation of social measures financed by an improvement in growth.
– create the conditions for controlling public spending and having the necessary funds to deal with the risks of a food crisis.
The program, according to the terms of the IMF press release, will be validated in the next few days by a board of directors.
It is a breath of fresh air for the government of the transition which has declared war on terrorism and which is faced with the management of nearly two million displaced persons while ensuring the sovereign functions of the State.
