O iMessage gained support for link previews from Threads. The feature allows for a more immersive experience by displaying an expanded version of the shared link and post text, as well as the author’s avatar and username.

Previously, this feature was exclusive to just a few social networks like Twitter X and Mastodon; Facebook, however, was not part of this list. The addition of Threads, therefore, may signal Apple’s clear support in this endeavor by Meta.

It is worth mentioning that Apple has been selective regarding the list of supported sites in the iMessage preview. Although the company does not have an official account on the platform, some of its services, such as Apple Music and the Apple Newsalready have profiles on Threads.

Furthermore, Phil Schillerformer Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple and current Apple Fellowalso is the only Apple executive with a public account on Threads.

The move follows the integration of iMessage with Mastodon last February and comes amid major changes in the social media landscape, notably since the acquisition of former Twitter (now X) by Elon Musk.

Social network gets news

The Threads app also gained new features. Among them is the possibility to see the posts that have been liked, an option to improve the quality of photos and videos published, as well as a new way of sorting the list of followed people.

For the user to see the publications that he liked, just go to “Settings” (on the profile page) and search for “Your Likes”. According to TechCrunchthe feature was released a week following it appeared in beta versions.

Another novelty is that it is now possible to send photos and videos with better quality. just go on Settings » Account » Media Quality and activate this option. This is great for anyone who likes to share content without losing resolution.

Threads also facilitated the way to organize the list of who the user follows. Now, you can view from most recent to oldest (and vice versa). To do this, the user just needs to open his profile, click on the list of followers and go to the “Following” tab.

Web version on the way

While the new platform has seen explosive growth since its launch, Meta seems to have recognized the demand for new features. In that regard, Mark Zuckerberg recently confirmed the arrival of a web version and advanced search.

According to him, the development of a desktop web version is in progress. A preview of this was the temporary display of “Reply” buttons on Threads user profiles via the web, although they did not function.

The announcement also highlighted the inclusion of an advanced search feature in upcoming updates. Currently, Threads users can only search for other accounts, without the option to search for specific posts or words.

Although with unprecedented growth, the lack of some features led a small number of users to abandon the platform. As the company looks to address the issues, Meta has admitted to prioritizing certain updates over others.

However, the absence of a timeline for these updates leaves users guessing when they will be able to use these new features. Let’s wait, so… ⌛
