Delhi A few steps away from the Parliament Building is a mosque known as the ‘Parliament Wali Masjid’. The imam of the same mosque has recently been elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time after defeating a popular leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The mosque The name of the imam of the mosque who traveled the short distance from to the parliament is Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi and he is 48 years old.
Born in Raza Nagar village of Rampur district, Muhibullah Nadvi was selected by Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav to contest from Rampur.
Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi while talking to Independent Urdu says that ‘As the mosque is very close to the Parliament, politicians used to come here to pray and meet me. This mosque is of great importance, because most of the presidents of the country have prayed here.’
‘I wanted to enter the Parliament from this mosque. So that I can work sincerely for my country.’
“This wish has come true, people of all religions have chosen me with love and now I feel happy to help them,” he said.

Nadvi won overwhelming support from her constituency, defeating a popular Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.
“People of all religions voted for me, be they Hindus, Muslims, Christians or any other religion,” he said. Everyone gave me a lot of love and support.’
“Now as a Member of Parliament I am happy to be able to serve my people who have shown their trust in me.”
The newly elected Maulana Muhibullah Nadvi is in charge of the mosques as well as the Parliament.
‘Neither Imamate prevents me from doing politics nor does politics prevent me from Imamate. However, I and other MPs have different views. The difference is that I also consider politics as worship.’
