As we report this morning, a collision occurred between a car and a train at the Chaussée d’Enghien level crossing, on the border between Herne and Enghien.
The images captured by Infrabel’s technical camera, placed on the level crossing (PN), are chilling. We see a train traveling at moderate speed crossing the facilities. While the security barriers were closed, a motorist seemed to slow down before continuing on his way, cutting through the railway infrastructure.
The shock, particularly violent, was inevitable with this train of line 94 (Enghien-Ath section) but luckily, the driver is safe and sound. On the Infrabel video, we can also see him getting out of his vehicle, looking incredulous.
According to the information collected on the spot, the vehicle equipped with an automatic gearbox, heading towards Enghien, would have stopped at the level crossing, but the driver would have engaged the wrong gear, by distraction.
