Images of the Auschwitz concentration camp to promote a wrestling match

US wrestling company World Wrestling Entertainment has apologized for using video footage of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz to promote a match between a father and son.

“Exploiting the site which has become the symbol of a huge human tragedy is shameful and insults the memory of all the victims of Auschwitz”, reacted the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum on Twitter, according to what reported CNN Sunday.

The promotional video following a made-up plot that wrestler Dominik Mysterio spent time in prison for attacking his father, his opponent in the match Rey Mysterio, however used images taken from the place where were committed many atrocities during World War II.

“We had no knowledge of what was depicted,” World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) said in a statement to CNN. As soon as we learned regarding it, it was deleted immediately. We apologize for this error.”

“The fact that the Auschwitz image was used to promote a WWE match is hard to call an ‘editing error,’” the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial & Museum continued in its tweet.

Despite the apologies, the “error” did not pass with Internet users either, who reacted greatly on the social platform.

“What site of [photos et vidéos] stock would have labeled the video as something other than a nazi extermination camp? It will not just be labeled “prison”, commented a user.
