With the recent launch of iMac with the M3 chipthe computers all-in-one completed the line of Macs with support for high impedance headphones — which was confirmed by Maça itself in a support page.
Support for this type of device extends to all Macs launched from 2021 onwards. As the previous iMac had been launched in 2020, with the M1 chip, this was the only line that did not yet have a computer with the new feature.
With technology support, the computer’s headphone output features DC load detection and adaptive voltage — which allows the machine to adapt the output to high and low impedance headphones.
When you connect headphones with an impedance of less than 150 ohms, the headphone output provides up to 1.25 volts RMS. For headphones with an impedance of 150 to 1,000 ohms, the headphone jack is 3 volts RMS. This may eliminate the need for an external headphone amplifier.
With the new feature, the list of Macs with high impedance headphone support includes all MacBooks Air launched from 2022 onwards, MacBooks Pro launched from 2021 onwards, Macs Studio launched from 2022 onwards and also the Mac mini and Mac Pro launched this year.
