While Diablo IV has been out for several weeks now, players are starting to look forward to Season 1. Unfortunately for some of them, the arrival of the latter risks producing the effect of a cold shower…
Big disappointment for Diablo 4 players
Since June 6 (and even a little earlier for owners of the Deluxe and Ultimate editions), Diablo IV players have finally been able to discover the revival of Blizzard’s Hack’n’Slash. With its six-act campaign and its many side activities reminiscent of the MMOs from which it is inspired (such as PvP and World Bosses for example), Diablo IV has kept its fans spellbound for several hours, and does not intend to stop there.
While most players haven’t even finished the campaign, we were talking to you yesterday regarding the colossal number of experience points that must be accumulated to reach the maximum level. A job that might take dozens of hours for each of your characters, and that already tires the least patient. So, just to keep a little more playful goal in mind, some players are already waiting for the arrival of Season 1 like a child in front of the fireplace on Christmas Eve. It must be said that in addition to the famous Battle Pass (which should not contain the slightest element impacting the performance of your characters, as a reminder), the latter should also be an opportunity to renew the experience a little with new activities. to do.
However, while many players were counting on at least enjoying the Battle Pass without having to recreate a character, Rod Fergusson (the game’s lead developer) came to calm everyone down:
Hey Paul, yes to take part in the seasonal questline, mechanics, season journey and battle pass, you will need to create a new seasonal character. Playing campaign with seasonal character (if you so desire or need to finish) will also progress the season journey and battle pass.

Yes, to take part in the quests of the new season, its mechanics, its objectives and its Battle Pass, it will be necessary to create a new seasonal character. Playing the game’s campaign with a Season Character (if you want to or need to complete it) will also allow you to progress through Season Objectives or the Battle Pass.
If you were planning to gain Battle Pass levels with your character created for several dozen hours of play, you now know that it will not be possible… A hard blow for those who were only interested in this aspect of the seasons.
A more or less logical decision
If new players will surely be horrified to learn that their Barbarian level 85 will not allow them to take advantage of the Battle Pass, it must be said that this decision fits well with the logic of Diablo… in part. In effect, it’s not new that players have to start from scratch every season. This is also one of the main aspects of this game mode, which allows you to wipe the slate clean to restart the experience from the start quite regularly. However, many gamers had already gotten into the habit of skipping seasons and continuing to enjoy the game with their original characters.
Of course, if you are one of these types of players, you can always do it. Sadly though, it was entirely legitimate to hope that the Battle Pass wasn’t tied to seasonal activities.. From now on, you will therefore know that if you do not intend to recreate a character from the beginning, it will be useless to spend your money in the Battle Pass. Good news for those who had not taken the collector’s editions, a little less for the others…
Good to know. I’m out. I’m sad I wasted money on Diablo 4 but it was my own fault. Bye bye Activision.

Good to know. It will be without me. I’m sad I wasted money on Diablo IV but it was my fault. Goodbye Activision.
If this tweet is only one among others, it sums up the situation of many players disappointed by this information. To justify himself, the developers talk regarding the injustice that characters who already have a very high level and are very well equipped might create. Indeed, the latter would have much less difficulty in completing the first stages of the Battle Pass compared to those who would play the game of the season and who would redo a character from scratch. On the other hand, forcing players to make a seasonal character to take advantage of the Battle Pass would also be a good way to introduce this mode to the more cautious.
As a reminder, Season 1 of Diablo IV should start around mid-July, and you should at least keep the discovered locations on your map, the Altars of Lilith and the teleport portals of the capitals of each region. Everything else should then reset if you decide to make a seasonal character.
