Leslie Grace has spoken following the announcement that ‘Batgirl‘ of Warner and HBO Max It will no longer be released in theaters or on platforms, nor will it be part of the DC Universe. The actress took to Instagram to share her thoughts following news broke the day before that Warner Bros. Discovery will shelve the $90 million film.
The social media post from Grace, who plays Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl, included footage from the film and footage from the set of the DC project that was directed by the filmmakers. Adil El Arbi y Bilall Fallah:
“After the recent news regarding our film ‘Batgirl’, I am proud of the love, hard work and intention that our entire incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland. I feel blessed to have worked between absolute greats and having forged lifelong relationships in the process! To all Batgirl fans: THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take up the cape and become, as Babs best said, ‘I am my own hero!’ Batgirl for life!”
The directors of the film also said in a joint Instagram message what they were “sad and shocked” to learn that the public will not be able to see the film.
“We still can’t believe it. As directors, it’s critical that our work be shown to the public, and while the film was far from finished, we wish fans around the world had had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film for themselves. Maybe one day they will insha’Allah. We thank Leslie Grace for portraying her character with such passion, dedication and humanity.”
‘Batgirl,’ which also starred Michael Keaton as Batman; JK Simmons as Barbara’s father, Sheriff Gordon; and Brendan Fraser as the villainous Firefly, It is not the only film to be canceled by the merger of Warner Bros and Discovery. Also the sequel to ‘Scooby!‘ y a series of Warner original series on HBO Max are suffering the consequences of cost cutting.
