Since only getting a minute of playing time during the Euros, Hans Vanaken has had plenty of opportunities to show off with the national team. Three goals and four assists later, he seems to be an integral part of the Red Devils.
How it hurts not to play the Euro. “It just wasn’t nice sitting in the stands for four of the five games,” said Hans Vanaken. “Since then there’s been a lot of progress, but if you’re not lucky you can’t show up either. I’m in good shape and I can show it now. That headed goal? That’s always been one of my strengths”, underlined the Brugeois.
Vanaken even got applause at Lotto Park, something he’s not used to. “Yes, I score easily here,” he says with a smile. “But yes, it’s good. The fans understood that I was playing for Belgium today and not for Club Brugge.”
