ILO and European Union train journalists on social protection – Jornal OPaís

The Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas Albino, considered, yesterday, in Luanda, the training of staff so that the communication bodies can be up to responding and responding to the need to disseminate appropriate information to the citizen.

The government official made these statements when speaking at the opening ceremony of the first training course for journalists on social protection, promoted until Friday (15th) by the representation of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Angola, in partnership with the European Union and from the Journalist Training Center (Cefojor).

“The course presents itself as a unique opportunity for journalists to absorb knowledge regarding social protection so that, in a more structured and proactive way, they can disseminate and prepare articles on this topic”, highlighted the official, according to Angop. He stated that the course is of great value and importance and fits within the concerns and strategic lines of the Angolan Government, regarding the training and professional qualification of staff in the field of social communication. “In order to provide a quality public service, training activities in various areas are an intrinsic necessity, so that the media are able to respond and respond to the need to disseminate appropriate information to citizens”, he said.

According to Nuno Albino, the mission of communicating is for communication professionals, with particular emphasis on journalists, to play a relevant and important role in the process of transmitting information and shaping social awareness. For this to happen correctly and responsibly, Nuno Albino also considered it necessary and essential that journalists be aware of the phenomena they report. Thus, the person in charge highlighted that training actions are completely opportune and necessary for the class, since communicating means transforming, educating and training man.

On the occasion, the head of the European Union Cooperation Area in Angola, Enrico Strampelli, said that the media must support social protection services, in order to make this issue more immediate and accessible. In this way, he highlighted, professionals in the sector will be helping to strengthen trust, social cohesion and raise awareness among target populations of their rights. Regarding the training, Enrico Strampelli explained that it aims to improve journalists’ knowledge levels regarding social protection, not only international standards, but also the current state of social protection in Angola.
