The first edition of the Journal du Dimanche with Geoffroy Lejeune at its head was published this Sunday. The photo chosen for the front page of the newspaper has created debate on social networks, since Internet users believe that two events have been confused.
The JSunday newspaperwhose publication resumed this Sunday following a strike once morest the arrival at its head of Geoffroy Lejeune, is suspected of having confused two cases on its front page, but Lagardère News, owner of the title, defended the choice of an image ” symbolic” to AFP.
At the opening of its return edition devoted to insecurity and justice following the death of a 15-year-old teenager stabbed to death on July 22 in Eure, the newspaper used two photos from another case.
That of a white march in January for a teenager with the same first name knocked down by a car in New Aquitaine. Photos taken by an employee of South West and published on the site of the regional daily, the newspaper confirmed to AFP.
A choice noted by Vincent Flibustier, a digital trainer, and criticized on social networks because referring to a case that is not mentioned in the pages of the weekly.
A “symbolic” photo, defends the newspaper
Asked by AFP, Lagardère News explains that it made “the choice of a photo of A symbolism to illustrate the distress of families in the face of the atrocity. Road insecurity is part of it and represents all the other fights”.
On X (ex-Twitter), Geoffroy Lejeune assured that there was “no illustration error” and that it is “the image of these countless families that we are talking regarding in the file”.
“I was at the white march for Enzo. The photo does not match our white march. The JDD got the wrong Enzo and put a photo of a young man knocked down by a car in the Landes in January!”, Also noticed on X (ex-Twitter) the socialist deputy for Eure Philippe Brun.
A newspaper made in a select committee
On Sunday, for his first public statement, Geoffroy Lejeune explained on Europe 1 (Lagardère group media) that the publication had taken place in a rather “surreal” atmosphere with very few members of the outgoing editorial staff and many “volunteers”, relatives of Geoffroy Lejeune or employees of Lagardère.
We thus find the signatures of Charlotte d’Ornellas and Raphaël Stainville (former Current Valueslike the editorial director), Pascal Praud, journalist for Europe 1 and CNews, or even Eric Naulleau (ex-debating companion of Eric Zemmour, whom Geoffroy Lejeune supported in the presidential election of 2022).
The 34-year-old journalist sparked several controversies, especially when the weekly Current Valuesunder his direction, was sentenced to a suspended fine of 1,000 euros for public insult of a racist nature once morest LFI deputy Danièle Obono.
Even if Arnaud Lagardère, the boss of the group, denies it, many observers see in this appointment the hand of Vincent Bolloré, billionaire with opinions deemed ultra-conservative.
