Illuminated by 96%, the moon is in conjunction with Jupiter at night

According to the Jeddah Astronomical Society, this conjunction will occur one day following the full moon, and its disk will be 96% illuminated, the brightest spot in the night sky.

The association clarified in a statement that the presence of the moon near Jupiter means on the dome of the sky only, as they are not close to each other in space, as the moon is only regarding 377,000 km away from us, while Jupiter is 596,895,504 km away.

And the association continued: Jupiter is the fourth brightest object in the sky, following the sun, moon and Venus, and it will appear as a bright white point for the observer with the naked eye. Callisto, Europa, Iowa, appearing as small points of light near Jupiter.

The association pointed out that during the night hours, all these bodies apparently move towards the west as a result of the Earth’s rotation on its axis, but the real movement of the moon is towards the east with respect to the stars.

The Society continued in its statement: By observing the position of the moon at the same time every day, it is noticed that its movement is towards the east with respect to the stars and planets, in the zodiac circle, so on the next day it will be noticed that the moon moved away from Jupiter and rushes towards the east, which is its natural movement in its orbit around the Earth.
