VALPARAISO, IN – DeAnna Wilson tallied her second straight double-double as Illinois State (11-5, 4-2 MVC) came back to beat Valparaiso (1-13, 0-6 MVC) 77-68 Friday night at the Athletic Recreation Center.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Illinois State erased a halftime deficit for the second time this season, as the Beacons led 37-35 at the break. Wilson scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half to lead Illinois State to the win. She finished with a performance of 12 rebounds that tied her season high. Wilson also went 11-for-11 from the free throw line, her second straight game with 10-plus made free throws.

  • Wilson was one of four Redbirds in double figures Friday night. Maya Wong and Caroline Waite both tallied 13 points in the win. Waite led Illinois State with a 3-for-3 mark from behind the arc in the first half to put up 9 points. She finished the game 4-for-5 from deep. Daijah Smith came off the bench to tally double-figures for the fourth time this season. She played a season-high 26 minutes and finished with 11 points.

  • Valparaiso shot 4-for-6 from deep in the second quarter to grab a two-point lead over Illinois State at the half.

  • The Redbirds outscored Valparaiso 21-12 in the third quarter and took control of the game as Wilson put up 12 points alone in the frame. She hit a pair of free throws and Illinois State took its largest lead of the game up to that point with a 56-49 advantage.

  • The Redbird lead swelled to double-figures for the first time in the fourth quarter as Shannon Dowel completed an old-fashioned three-point play. Valparaiso answered before Wilson put up an old-fashioned three-point play of her own for a 58-68 lead with 4:57 to go.

  • The Beacons tried to hang around, but Illinois State hit key free throws down the stretch for the win.

GAME NOTES

  • Wilson put up her 23rd career double double. She sits fourth on the Illinois State all-time double-doubles list and is four double-doubles shy of tying Marla Maupin for third in program history. It is the second time this season Wilson has put up double-doubles in back-to-back games.

  • The Redbirds finished with 31 points off the bench, their seventh game this season with 30-plus bench points. Illinois State has put up 30-plus points off the bench in three Valley games this season.

  • The Redbirds extended a four-game win streak over the Beacons and improved to 13-4 all-time once morest Valparaiso.

  • Illinois State improved to 6-1 this season when Waite hits three-plus threes, with the lone loss at No.5 NC State Dec. 3.
