ILLINOIS – State authorities have announced criminal charges once morest two first responders following allegedly loading a face-down patient onto a medical gurney.
First responders Peter Cadigan, 50, and Peggy Finley, 44, were arrested and charged with murder in the death of Earl L. Moore Jr, 35, on Dec. 18, 2022, the state’s prosecutor said. Sangamon County Dan Wright on Tuesday.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on December 18 around 2 am, when police received a report regarding “armed persons” inside a residence in the town of Springfield, Illinois.
Upon arrival at the home, officers did not locate an armed individual, but found Moore unconscious and clearly intoxicated in his bed. Agents then called an ambulance, which arrived at the scene at 2:18 a.m.
In a video released by the Sangamon Police It is seen how a lifeguard tells Moore to walk towards the stretcher “despite the fact that he clearly might not hold himself” and without offering him any help.
The video then cuts to three police officers beginning to help Moore walk out of the house onto a medical gurney, where rescuers lay him face down and strap him down.
Moore later died at the hospital at 3:14 a.m. His death was classified as a homicide, Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said at Tuesday’s news conference. The analysis revealed that he died due to compressional and positional asphyxia.
Lawyers for the couple and the LifeStar ambulance service did not immediately respond to NBC News’ requests for comment. The couple’s next court date is scheduled for January 19.
