PT Jasa Raharja has appealed to the public not to take illegal taxis when traveling home or back for Eid 2024. This is so that the public will receive compensation if a traffic accident occurs.
President Director of PT Jasa Raharja Rivan Achmad Purwantono said this appeal was a form of protection given to the community. He explained that Jasa Raharja has two mandates in representing the state, namely Law Number 33 of 1964 and Law Number 34 of 1964 concerning Road Traffic Accident Funds.
“So, there are two laws implemented by Jasa Raharja, namely Law 33 and 34. Law 33 is implementing the Law for public transportation, while 34 is for road transportation,” said Rivan at KM 70 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, Thursday, ( 11/4).
Rivan said that if you take public transportation, people will automatically pay the mandatory fees. However, if there is road transportation, people make mandatory contributions by paying taxes.
Rivan said that the fatal accident at KM 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road which killed 13 people on Monday, April 8 2024, was factually an accident of more than two vehicles. When there are more than two vehicles, he said, it is a factual legal requirement to comply with Law 34.
“But if something like the same thing happens at KM 370, a single accident, for example. A bus doesn’t pay the mandatory fee or it’s an illegal taxi, then the passengers won’t get compensation,” said Rivan.
Rivan said that the fatal accident of the Rosalia Indah bus at KM 370 of the Batang-Semarang toll road this morning at 06.30 WIB received compensation from Jasa Raharja. This is because the Rosalia Indah bus regularly pays mandatory fees.
“So, today seven of those who died received compensation and even 17 of the victims were injured until we finished taking action. So, this is an important form of the public’s need to know what kind of travel it is to drive a vehicle, whether it’s official or not, there are protection or not for passengers,” concluded Rivan.
