Among those present were the new commander of the 6th Ministry of Health Elias Theodoropouloswhile the Deputy Minister of Health Irini Agapidaki and the Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistokleous were also present.
After Adonis Georgiadis congratulated the new commanders for their success “in a difficult and competitive competition, which resulted in a result that gives the Greek people something that we have had to see for years in the Greek State” the Minister of Health pledged that “these meetings will be held at regular intervals” .
As mentioned by Ad. Georgiadis to the commanders: “You certainly worked hard to succeed in the competition, which was also reflected in your score. It is very important that you accepted the responsibility of this position in these difficult circumstances. We want to combine proposals and take the decisions of the political leadership on Health together, guided by two words: Consensus and discipline. We in the ministry will have the final responsibility. I personally respect the hierarchy very much.” And the health minister added the following: “We will face challenges. Personally, I can’t resist the allure of fuss. But we have our work to do.
The system is at a tipping point for many different reasons. Life circumstances change. We are a country with many remote areas and a strange structure of urban centers. We will have to make decisions. Our job is to deliver to the Greek people a sustainable and functional health system that will provide them with the services and care they are entitled to and deserve. We should not be worried and scared by the so-called political cost. I have full confidence in the judgment of the Greek people. When I was Minister of Health again in the middle of the Memorandum, I made difficult decisions, cuts, availability, etc. And yet in the next elections and after I surrendered, my crosses increased. The Greek people recognize the efforts. Our intentions are good. We have no hidden agenda of privatization and whatever some say. Every health minister loves and cares for the public health system”.
