The continuity of healthcare provision is a matter of concern for this summer in Ile-de-France with the hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (JOP) which will notably mobilize a large part of the hospital network.

To cope with the expected increase in activity, the health authorities have asked Ile-de-France hospitals to open “750 more beds than a normal summer”declared, Wednesday April 10 in front of the deputies, Sophie Martinon, the interim director general of the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Ile-de-France.

“We think there will be an increase in activity, but it is difficult to assess”she explained, mentioning the fact that there was no “did not have a massive increase » during previous Games, those of London in 2012 serving as a benchmark in this area, with “a small increase in emergency and trauma attendance.”

Before the senators, on March 5, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the Minister of Sports and JOPs, emphasized that “the simulations show us an anticipation of emergency traffic of around 5%”.

In an interview with ParisianMonday April 8, the Minister for Health, Frédéric Valletoux specified that “the expected increase” to emergencies “is around 150 passages per day” relative to « 3 500 » usual passages in summer.

During the Games, in addition to an athletes’ polyclinic installed in the heart of the Olympic village, three reference hospitals of the Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) will have to take care of specific audiences: Georges-Pompidou for the official Olympic delegations, Bichat for athletes, Avicenne (in Bobigny) for accredited journalists.

Furthermore, in addition to the other AP-HP establishments, twelve so-called hospitals “front line”that is to say close to the Olympic sites, will also be mobilized for the Games.

“We asked the hospitals [mobilisés par les JO] to ensure an increase in capacity beyond a normal summer, particularly for emergency services, surgery and critical care, said Sophie Martinon. And we asked all the other establishments [non directement mobilisés pour les JO] to be at the level of a classic summer ».

At the start of the year, the Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), which has thirty-eight establishments and which will be on the front line this summer, calculated that it needed to open 360 additional beds (out of a total 8,000 for the month of August ” ordinary “), in around sixty departments, as well as four additional emergency operating theaters.
