Jerusalem | News of a giant strawberry breaking the Guinness World Record has gone viral on social media. It holds the Guinness World Record for being the largest and heaviest strawberry in the world. This supersized strawberry weighs 289 grams, is 18 cm long, 4 cm wide and 34 cm in circumference. Last week, the Guinness Book of World Records declared it the largest strawberry in the world. Guinness World Records has also shared a video of the world’s heaviest strawberry on Instagram. According to the video, Ariel first hung an iPhone X6 and then a strawberry on a weighing machine. The iPhone X6 weighed 194 grams. It weighs 100 grams less than the giant strawberry. Strawberries were plucked in February 2021 from the Chahi Ariel family farm near the central Israeli city of Netanya.
But this week it made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. This supersized strawberry is a native variety of Island that grows to a large size. Extraordinary cold weather in early 2021 slowed the ripening process of strawberries. According to the Record Book’s website, this has led to weight gain. In 2015, a Japanese fruit in Fukuoka set the record for the heaviest strawberry. It weighed 250 grams (8.8 ounces).
