IIHF Junior World Championship 2023 begins December 26 in Moncton and Halifax

Switzerland will open the 2023 World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada, once morest Finland on December 26, 2022 at 11 am ET (5pm CET). At 1:30pm ET (7:30pm CET) Austria will follow with a game once morest Sweden in Halifax. Germany rises a day later, on April 27.

December 2022 when at 1:30pm ET (7:30pm CET) Sweden will also be the first opponent of the DEB selection.

The tournament will take place from December 26th to January 5th, 2023.

Canada won the 2022 World Junior Championship by beating Finland 3-2 following overtime in the August 20 final at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The last team to win a consecutive tournament was Canada, who won five straight tournaments from 2005 to 2009.

Ten teams participate in the WJC. In the preliminary round, Group A consists of Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Germany and Austria, playing at the Scotiabank Center in Halifax. Group B, made up of the USA, Finland, Switzerland, Slovakia and Latvia, will compete at the Avenir Center in Moncton.

Russia remains banned from international matches over its invasion of Ukraine.

The top four teams in each group advance to the quarter-finals, which will be played on January 2nd, with the semi-finals taking place in Halifax on January 4th, where the title and third-place games will also be played on January 5th. A best-of-3 relegation round will also be played during the WJC playoff rounds.
