IIFA Awards 2024: Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee hit the ground running

Bollywood After a long absence from the limelight, K’s ‘King Khan’ finally made it to the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) on Saturday. Awards I won the best actor award.

58-year-old Shah Rukh Khan was given an award for his action thriller film ‘Joan’ at the award show held in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

In his speech after receiving the award, Shah Rukh Khan said: ‘I just want to tell you that it’s good to be back here, I love the awards. I think I am happy for the audience this year because I worked (again) after a long time.’

About hosting IIFA, Shah Rukh Khan said: ‘IIFA is a celebration of Indian cinema that resonates across the world and it has been amazing for me to be a part of its journey over the years.’

Apart from winning the award, Shah Rukh Khan also hosted and gave other performances at the award show.

The film ‘Animal’ won six awards for Anil Kapoor including Best Supporting Actor.

Rani Mukherjee won the Best Actress award for ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway’ and Vidhu Vinod Chopra won the Best Director award for ’12th Fail’.

Shahid Kapoor reached the stage on a motorcycle and after Shahrukh Khan’s appearance, the superstar was honored with fireworks on the stage.

Before the release of Jawaan Aur Pathan last year, Shah Rukh Khan had not appeared in a film for five years.

The rise in popularity of Tamil and other Indian blockbusters is affecting Bollywood’s business, while Indian cinema is struggling with the rise of Netflix and other streaming services.

According to estimates by Indian firm Elara Capital, Bollywood box office revenue in the first half of 2024 was down by 35% compared to the same period last year.

The IIFA 2024 festival lasted for three days from September 27 to 29. Abu Dhabi was hosting the third consecutive edition of the event which started in 2000 and has been held only once in India.
