Mohamed Ihattaren is not a player who just wants to play football anonymously with RKC Waalwijk. The 22-year-old midfielder hopes to get into action for the Waalwijkers as soon as possible and is ambitious. “I’m going for the highest possible.”
It was quite busy at the press presentation of Ihattaren on Friday afternoon in the Mandemakers Stadium. The comeback of the former super talent of PSV is hot news in football. “I had a good conversation with technical director Mo Allach and trainer Henk Fraser. I feel a lot of trust and warmth and am very happy that I get the chance here. But I am not only here for myself, I also want to help the club.”

In the 2021/2022 season, he last played in competitive football as a player for Jong Ajax. In recent seasons, adventures at Juventus, Sampdoria and Slavia Prague ended in disappointment. In addition, he regularly made negative headlines due to misconduct off the field. In recent months, however, he has worked hard on a return to professional football. “I made mistakes at a young age. I am happy that I can now play football again, that is what I love most. I trained many days in Almere to get fit and I also receive mental help.”
“Making minutes can happen quickly.”
The Utrechter hopes to be in action for the Waalwijkers as soon as possible. “The medical examination went well and I have already trained with the group. I am looking forward to finally making minutes again, it can happen quickly. This is the first step for me to work towards my top level again. In the coming years I want to see an upward trend and then I will see where I am at that moment.”

“Special players are harder for ordinary people to understand.”
Coach Henk Fraser calls Mohamed a special player. “I like guys like Royston Drenthe and Memphis Depay. Players with a clear opinion, but above all enthusiasts. They are sometimes a bit harder to understand for ordinary people. Mohamed is also such a boy. He is passionate and wants it very much. We still have to find out how fit he is, but during training he immediately showed how good he can play football.”
