“Ignitis gamyba” transfers to Ukraine the equipment of the third thermal power plant in Vilnius | Business

The transfer of the equipment located in TE-3 was officially approved on July 15. following signing the support agreement between “Ignitis gamybo” and the operator of the Ukrainian electricity distribution network, which has been appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine as the recipient and distributor of the country’s humanitarian aid to the energy sector.

“We signed a contract that allows us to increase the scale of the company’s humanitarian aid to war-torn Ukraine. We chose the TE-3 equipment purposefully – it is not only suitable for the energy infrastructure of Ukraine, but also meets the needs expressed by the electricity network operator”, says Asta Sungailienė, head of “Ignitis gamyba”.

According to her, the main activity of TE-3 belonging to “Ignitis Gamyba” was stopped back in 2015 due to high operating costs, as well as following assessing that the operation of power units will not have a significant impact on the stability of the electricity system.

“Although the power plant has been inactive for nine years, we managed to save all its equipment – working and fully functional. For more than 30 years, this power plant, with a total heat and electricity capacity of almost 1,000 MW, supplied heat to regarding half of Vilnius households. Now this equipment will contribute to the restoration of vital functions in Ukraine”, emphasizes A.Sungailienė.

The humanitarian aid package handed over by the company includes more than 300 pieces of critical TE-3 equipment. However, the biggest value is the delivery time of the equipment and its integration into the energy infrastructure of Ukraine.

“For security reasons, we cannot disclose more detailed information regarding the transfer of support, including the specific equipment names, power or power plants it will target. However, we would like to emphasize that at this critical time, the most important thing is to deliver the equipment as soon as possible and ensure its connection to the Ukrainian energy system”, emphasizes the head of “Ignitis production”.

The head of “Ignitis Gamyba” predicts that humanitarian aid to Ukraine will be provided in several stages, and the most important equipment will reach the country by the time the need for electricity increases.
